Artist/Producer Calvin Johnson has been a friend and mentor for many years now and has been kind enough to have collaborated with me on arts events performing as Selector Dub Narcotic. As another local business person with a little more experience, his input on my journey has been more than a little helpful. Calvin started his Olympia based Record label K in 1982. His own prolific body of work makes him seem uniquely suited to the process of producing other artists. He is the kind of person who helps you feel stronger in the expression of your own medium.

Buttons Kaluhiokalani is a very old friend, I met him in Waikiki back in the 80′s he is a naturally talented surfer in fact legendary, always amazing to watch. Buttons is building a new family with his lovely wife Hiriata, living on the North Shore, surfing strong and running his very successful surf school.

John and Ruth Waddell are my grandparents and had an enormous effect on my life. My grandmothers kitchen garden and awareness of nutritional healing helped early on form my cooking style. Grandfather had me doing life drawing at 8 years old and taught me about composition, color, and art history in my late 20′s during my apprenticeship with him. They both Encouraged me strongly to do my own art work and in my dream of moving to Italy to study.

Kim Cobain has exhibited her abstract architectural photography with me twice, both exhibits were very well received.

Kim is also a very old friend who became co-manager at my Restaurant The Mark for a period of approximately five years, becoming familiar with all aspects of my business. She was a pleasure to work with: loyal, respectful and hard working. I look forward to collaborating with her when she opens her own restaurant in the years to come.

Painter Robert Mars has exhibited at The Mark more than once, both were highly successful. His work is modern and clean, I love the way he uses color and the timeless classic nature of his content . He has been wonderful to work with I wish him much success in his upcoming exhibits in Europe.

Tony Alva is one of my oldest friends. A role model reminding me by example of my responsibility to behave kindly towards others even when under extreme stress and has many times been my partner in organizing arts and music events. Tony is an original talent, there is nobody like him, his life is an amazing adventure. A professional skateboarder and very famous from his early teens, he has continued to evolve into a more beautiful person instead of letting the incredible pressure of fame and competitive nature of sports destroy him. Being involved in encouraging youth to skate, surf and rise above challenges is a big part of his life today. Tony continues to do what he loves: skate, surf, and play music. He enjoys playing base with his band G.F.P. and still working closely with his original sponsor Vans.
